Where can I see and learn about art?
Visit reputable art galleries. Ask gallery staff questions about the art or artists they represent. Galleries are enthusiastic about the art they exhibit and enjoy sharing their knowledge. It is important to cultivate relationships with established galleries and dealers as they can help you build a collection. The more art you look at with an open mind, the more your aesthetic taste will develop.

Gallery policies differ; however, most offer payment plans.

Galleries can arrange for art handlers and shippers. Prices vary with size, weight, packing, insurance and geographic area.

How do I arrange an appraisal of artwork I own?

An appraisal should be prepared by a dealer who has a thorough knowledge of the artist’s complete body of work. A fee is usually charged for this service.

How can I obtain information about an artist's exhibition history?

Galleries can provide the artist's resume, which usually includes education, exhibition history, public and private collections, awards, and commissions.

Do galleries have artwork available other than the work on display in the current exhibition?

Galleries represent multiple artists and usually keep numerous pieces of artwork from each artist. Please inquire if you would like to see artwork other than what is being exhibited.

Besides art galleries, where can I see and learn more about art?

Visit art museums and become a member. Attend art lectures, tours, and talks by curators and visiting experts. Visit nonprofit art centers and university galleries. Subscribe to art magazines, read art books, art reviews, and interviews with artists. Attending art fairs is also an excellent way to see a variety of art in one location.
